How to read this list
- File refs use the format
file:line (line numbers are approximate).
- Items are grouped by vehicle, then by category within each vehicle.
- Cross-file contradictions are listed first because they are the highest-value fixes.
- "FSM" = Factory Service Manual throughout.

1. GL1500 Cross-File Contradictions
These are factual conflicts between files. At least one file is wrong in each case.
XF-01 Relay 3 and the neutral light
06:110 says Relay 3 loss kills the neutral light.
07:186 says neutral/reverse lights are NOT fed by Relay 3.
- Direct contradiction. One file is wrong. Confirm against the wiring diagram.
XF-02 Relay 3 naming
06:81 calls it "Tail-light / main relay."
07:183 calls it "accessory / #3 relay."
- Same relay, different names. Pick one and use it consistently.
XF-03 Relay 3 symptom list
06:110 says Relay 3 feeds: tail lights, coolant temp, fuel level, neutral light, side-stand light.
07:181 says Relay 3 feeds: gauges, dash lights, running lights, fuel gauge.
- Overlapping but different lists. Reconcile against the SM wiring diagram.
XF-04 Spark plug torque — three conflicting values
01:185 — 12 N·m (service manual).
19:38 — 15 N·m (torque master table).
04:237 — ~18 N·m (NGK generic for 12 mm in aluminium).
18:197 acknowledges the 12-vs-15 conflict but does not resolve it.
21:270 repeats both 12 and 18 N·m.
- Safety-critical: wrong torque risks stripped aluminium threads or loose plugs. Resolve from FSM.
XF-05 Primary reduction ratio
10:29 — 1.591–1.592 (range).
10:47 — uses 1.591 in calculation.
11:39 — 1.592 (single value).
09:21 — 1.592 in overview table.
09:262 — 1.591 in verify section of the same file.
- Pick one and use it everywhere.
XF-06 Final-drive drain bolt torque
11:124 — "12 or 20 N·m" with note that sources disagree.
19 has no final-drive fill-plug entry at all.
21:159 — "~12 N·m per file 18; ~20 N·m per some sources."
18:144 — "~12 N·m (9 ft·lb) typical" for the fill plug.
- 67% discrepancy. Resolve from FSM.
XF-07 Final-drive fill-plug torque vs drain-plug torque
11:126 — fill/filler cap: 20 N·m formal, many torque to ~12 N·m.
11:112 — procedure says "9–10 ft·lb feel."
18:144 — fill plug "~12 N·m."
- Three values (9–10 ft·lb / ~12 N·m / 20 N·m) for the same plug. Resolve from FSM.
XF-08 Engine oil drain-plug torque
18:119 — 35 N·m "per the service manual."
18:262 — verify section says 40 N·m and calls it a "community figure."
19:53 — 35 N·m.
01:187 — 35 N·m.
- The verify section's 40 N·m contradicts the file's own body text and two other files. Fix the verify section.
XF-09 Rear axle nut torque
15:117 — 108 N·m (80 ft·lb).
19:182 — 110 N·m (80 ft·lb).
- Same ft·lb, 2 N·m difference. Pick the FSM value.
XF-10 Rear axle pinch bolt torque
15:118 — 31 N·m (23 ft·lb).
19:183 — 32 N·m (23 ft·lb).
- 1 N·m difference. Pick the FSM value.
XF-11 Rear lower shock mount bolt — left vs right not distinguished
15:119 — single value: 69 N·m (51 ft·lb).
19:186 — LEFT: 70 N·m (18 mm thread). RIGHT: 23 N·m (8 mm thread).
- File 15 gives only the left-side value and doesn't mention the right is completely different. A reader applying 69 N·m to the 8 mm right-side bolt could strip it.
XF-12 Front axle pinch bolt quantity
15:107 — "Two pinch bolts on the right fork leg."
19:166 — "Front axle pinch bolt x4."
- File 15 implies 2 total (one leg only). File 19 says 4 total (both legs). Contradictory.
XF-13 Fork air pressure maximum — three different values
12:112 — max ~41 kPa / 6 psi. Note: "one owner's 1999 SE manual cites up to 8 psi."
13:124 — max ~40 kPa / 6 psi (no 8 psi caveat).
17:179 — max ~41 kPa / 6 psi. Note: "one manual allows up to 8 psi."
21:426 spec table — max 55 kPa / 8 psi.
21:441 procedure step 8 — max 10 psi / 70 kPa.
- Three different max values (6 / 8 / 10 psi) across the doc set. Over-pressurizing blows fork seals. Resolve from FSM.
XF-14 Alternator output
README:55 — 550 W @ 5000 rpm.
20:49 — ~40 A.
22:195 — ~40 A (some sources cite 45 A).
24:53 — 90 A / ~1,200 W (CompuFire upgrade, not stock).
- The 550 W at a specific rpm appears only in the README with no source. 40 vs 45 A is unresolved.
XF-15 Alternator type — stock vs CompuFire
20:45 — stock is wound rotor, brushes, slip rings (externally excited).
24:54 — CompuFire 58500 is permanent-magnet (brushless).
- These are fundamentally different architectures requiring different regulators. The architectural difference is never explicitly noted in the installation context.
XF-16 Battery CCA values
06:39 — OEM YB18L-A: ~210 CCA (single appearance, unverified).
05:129 — YTX24HL-BS replacement: ~350 CCA (Yuasa spec).
06:15 — YTX24HL-BS replacement: ~340 CCA.
- 210 for OEM is unverified; 340 vs 350 for the replacement is a 10 CCA discrepancy between files.
XF-17 OEM battery part number family
05:140 — 31500-MN5-xxx (motorcycle PN family).
06:14 — 31500-ZB7-632 (power-equipment cross-ref).
- Different families. Only one is the correct motorcycle OEM PN.
XF-18 On-board voltmeter existence
05:70 — "may not have a factory voltmeter" (hedged).
07:123 — "does NOT have a factory voltmeter" (definitive).
- File 05 should match file 07's definitive statement.
XF-19 PAIR/secondary-air system existence
01:175 — states the GL1500 HAS a secondary air supply system.
02:259 — says existence is "not confirmed."
23:178 — says "unconfirmed."
- Direct contradiction. File 01 asserts it exists; files 02 and 23 say unknown.
XF-20 SMC (secondary master cylinder) existence
20:238 — GL1500 "does not have the separate SMC found on the GL1800."
20:338 — quick reference table mentions "PCV/SMC long circuit."
21:214 — brake bleed procedure mentions "PCV/SMC."
- Contradiction within file 20 itself and in file 21. If there's no SMC, remove "SMC" from the symptom descriptions.
00:120 — 4.1 L as simply "Coolant capacity."
03:57 — distinguishes: after disassembly 4.1 L, after draining 3.8 L.
- File 00 doesn't specify it's the full-disassembly figure. A normal drain-and-fill uses 3.8 L. A reader using only file 00 could overfill by 0.3 L.
XF-22 Oil capacity with filter — upper bound differs
README:37 — 3.7–4.0 L (3.9–4.2 US qt).
21:74 — ~3.7 L (~3.9 US qt) inferred.
01:142 — ~3.7 L.
00:205 — 3.7–4.0 L (3.9–4.0 US qt) — US qt upper end is wrong (should be 4.2).
- The README's upper bound (4.0 L) appears nowhere in the detailed files. And file 00's US qt conversion is wrong.
00:134 — 100 PS.
01:23 — 101 PS.
- Both round from ~101.2 PS. Pick one.
00:135 — 110–111 ft·lb (range).
01:24 — 111 ft·lb (flags 110 as Wikipedia).
- Present the conflict consistently or resolve it.
XF-25 Timing belt tensioner bolt — confidence level
18:90 — "~26 N·m, community figure, confirm against SM."
19:70 — 26 N·m, listed without flag (implies factory-sourced).
- Same value, different confidence levels. Align them.
XF-26 Engine mount torques — one file says missing, another has them
16:270 — "Not reliably documented in the consulted online sources."
19:140 — engine mount nut 40 N·m, engine bracket bolt 25 N·m (listed).
- File 16 doesn't cross-reference file 19's data.
XF-27 Fan thermo-switch on-temperature
07:162 body text — 98–102 C.
07:300 verify section — 96–99 C.
- Non-overlapping ranges within the same file.
XF-28 Maintenance interval for brake/clutch fluid
17:193 — every 2 years or ~19,000 km / 12,000 mi.
18:34 schedule table — R at 18 mo / 18,000 km.
- 19,000 km != 18,000 km. 12,000 mi = ~19,312 km != 18,000 km. File 18 (Honda table) is probably correct.
XF-29 Water pump drive type
03:111 — "belt/gear driven off the engine" (ambiguous).
- No other file clarifies. Is it belt-driven (sharing the cam belt) or gear-driven? This matters for timing belt service scope.
XF-30 Cylinder numbering convention
01:40 — front-to-rear within each bank; L/R assignment flagged as unverified.
04:143 — odd numbers on the RIGHT, even on the LEFT (stated definitively).
- Different certainty levels, not cross-referenced.
XF-31 DOT 4 brake fluid bottle size
17:33 — OEM bottle 08203-0004 is 12 fl oz (355 mL).
17:211 — "one 456 mL / 16 fl oz bottle is 'just enough' for a full flush."
- Two different bottle sizes. If you buy the OEM 12 oz bottle, it may not be enough for a full flush as the file implies.
XF-32 Fork oil capacity — 1989 vs 2000
21:424 — Left ~372 mL / Right ~376 mL for 2000.
21:424 note — 1989 manual ~10.8–10.9 oz (vs 12.6/12.7 oz for 2000).
- 15% difference between model years. The 2000-specific figure is unconfirmed.
XF-33 Neutral light control — three conflicting accounts
06:110 — Relay 3 controls neutral light.
07:186 — neutral light NOT fed by Relay 3.
08:194 — reverse switch "turns off the neutral indicator."
- Three files, three different stories about what controls the neutral indicator.
XF-34 Cross-reference link text mismatches
12:40 links to 14-brakes-and-hydraulics.md with text "Wheels, Tires & Brakes."
14:7 links to 15-wheels-and-tires.md for tire info.
- File 12 sends readers to file 14 for tires, but file 14 redirects to file 15. Referral loop.
XF-35 Sibling file link display names for file 18
14:7 — "Maintenance Schedule & Fluids."
12 — "Fluids & Capacities."
11 — "Maintenance Schedule."
- Same target file, three different display names.
2. GL1500 Potentially Wrong Values
Values that are likely incorrect based on evidence within the docs or common knowledge.
PW-01 Ground clearance primary value
00:192 — 140 mm listed as the primary value.
- The file itself says the 2000 SE is "most likely" the 115 mm post-1995 figure.
- The primary value shown is probably wrong for this bike.
PW-02 Fuel economy metric-to-imperial mismatch
00:138 — 7.2–7.5 L/100 km stated as equivalent to 31–40 US mpg.
- 7.2 L/100 km = 33 mpg; 7.5 L/100 km = 31 mpg. The upper end (40 mpg = 5.9 L/100 km) is outside the metric range.
- Also: highway owner-report (38–42 mpg) exceeds the stated overall range (31–40 mpg).
PW-03 Quick-spec spark plug torque in file 04
04:237 — summary shows ~18 N·m (NGK generic).
- The Honda FSM says 12 N·m. A reader consulting only the summary could over-torque into aluminium.
PW-04 Oil capacity US qt conversion
00:205 — "3.7–4.0 L (3.9–4.0 US qt)."
- 4.0 L = 4.23 US qt, not 4.0. The upper end is understated.
PW-05 1157 bulb candlepower annotation reversed
07:71 — "~21/5 W = 8/27 cp."
- 21 W (bright) should map to 27 cp, not 8 cp. Should read "27/8 cp."
PW-06 Luggage total volume arithmetic
16:155 — states total 193 L, but 68 + 62 + 62 = 192 L.
PW-07 Front wheel travel = ground clearance coincidence
12:17 — front wheel travel 140 mm.
12:38 — ground clearance 140 mm.
- Rarely equal on any motorcycle. Likely a transcription error from a single spec sheet.
PW-08 Unit conversion: 1 US pint != 456 mL
14:100 — "~1 pint / ~456 mL."
- 1 US pint = 473 mL. 456 mL = ~15.4 fl oz, not 16.
PW-09 Starter motor cable nut torque — implausibly low
19:258 — 0.5 N·m (~4 in·lb).
- Almost no torque for a power-carrying battery cable terminal. Almost certainly an OCR/table-alignment error.
PW-10 Final-drive oil grade "SAE 80"
21:158 — "Hypoid gear oil, SAE 80."
- SAE 80 is an unusual bare grade. SAE 80W-90 or 75W-90 would be typical. Also GL-4 vs GL-5 compatibility with potential brass bushings is unresolved.
PW-11 Honda 100,000-mile timing belt interval
01:101, 18:87, 20:151 — Honda's stated interval is 100,000 mi.
- Community consensus is 50,000–75,000 mi / 6–8 years.
- This is an interference engine. The 100,000-mi figure needs a stronger caveat about the community recommendation.
PW-12 BikeBandit retailer status
22:273 — listed as active retailer with "verify current operating status."
- BikeBandit ceased normal operations ~2023. Should note this explicitly.
PW-13 Hitch rating from wrong vehicle
22:228 — "600 lb / 60 lb tongue" rating is stated as being for the GL1800 (2018+), yet appears in the GL1500 table. GL1800 hitch won't fit a GL1500.
PW-14 "10-plate" clutch kit may mean 10 friction discs, not 10 total pieces
09:141 — explains "10-plate set" as a total-piece count, but "10-plate" kits typically refer to 10 friction discs. If GL1500 has 9, the kit may be for a different application.
PW-15 Final-drive drain bolt torque: 20 N·m (14 ft·lb) — conversion error
21:161 — "~20 N·m (2.0 kgf·m / 14 ft·lb)."
- 20 N·m = 14.75 ft·lb, rounds to 15, not 14.
PW-16 Cable gauge recommendation possibly undersized
24:59 — "minimum 8 AWG / 8 mm²" for a 90 A CompuFire main feed.
- 8 AWG is typically rated 40–55 A continuous in chassis wiring. 90 A may require 4–6 AWG.
PW-17 Oil filter torque kgf·m rounding
21:77 — "10 N·m (1.0 kgf·m)."
- 1.0 kgf·m = 9.81 N·m, not 10. Minor but worth noting.
PW-18 E39 rear disc larger than front — anomalous
BMW-E39:44-45 — front 296 mm, rear 298 mm.
- Rear discs larger than front is extremely unusual on a front-biased braking system. The 298 mm rear figure is likely wrong (may be 294 or 296 mm for the 523i trim). See section 9 for detail.
3. GL1500 Ambiguous or Unclear
AM-01 Fuel tank "reserve" language
00:204 — "Reserve: confirm (no separate petcock reserve — low-fuel warning instead)."
- Confusing for a system without a reserve position.
AM-02 "Usable to low-fuel light" label
02:172 — could mean "amount available before the light" or "amount consumed by the time the light comes on." Context suggests the latter, but the label implies the former.
AM-03 Timing belt tensioner "gentle nudge" procedure
01:115 — "give the tensioner a gentle nudge toward the belt." Direction, sequence, and preload method are vague for a safety-critical interference-engine job.
AM-04 Trunk lock operation direction
16:163 — "Turn CCW to open" then "Turn CCW again to lock." Same direction for both actions is confusing without explaining the momentary-turn mechanism.
AM-05 Windshield screw color rule
16:102 — "Black screws + deep sleeves outside; gold screws + shallow sleeves inside." Flagged as potentially finish/year-specific.
AM-06 Fork oil viscosity unresolved
12:78 — SS-7 (~5W), SS-8 (~10W), or 15W. Factory grade not confirmed.
AM-07 Anti-dive circuit L/R assignment
12:25 — "left anti-dive = foot-pedal circuit, right = hand-lever circuit. Confirm against SM."
AM-08 E39 model year vs production year
BMW-E39:3 — "final model year of the pre-facelift 523i before the September 2000 production cutoff." Does "2000" mean model year, production year, or registration year?
AM-09 E39 top speed limiter
BMW-E39:59 — "below the 250 km/h limiter, so the 523i reaches its natural top speed." Implies no limiter, but many E39s were governed. Ambiguous.
AM-10 E39 automatic diff ratio missing
BMW-E39:38 — manual diff ratio 3.46:1. "Automatic uses a different ratio" but no ratio given and not in verify section.
AM-11 Carb sync vacuum tolerance
02:102 and 23:180 — "~50 mm Hg / ~2 in Hg" flagged as a general Gold Wing tolerance, not GL1500-specific.
AM-12 Fuel pump flow test explanation
02:142 — "x12 for cc/min" without explaining why (5 s x 12 = 60 s = 1 min).
AM-13 Rear shock side assignment
13:20, 17:161 — "most owner reports describe right = air-assisted, left = coil-spring." Unverified for the 2000 SE.
AM-14 CB channel spacing simplification
08:117 — "0.01 MHz" is technically incorrect (CB has non-uniform spacing near channels 22–25).
AM-15 Proportioning/delay valve location
21:189 — "on some GL1500s near the left-side radiator; on others internal to the rear master cylinder." No resolution for the 2000 SE.
AM-16 Slave-cylinder bolt size
09:87 — "3 bolts (M6/M8)" — could be either size, or a mix. Unresolved.
AM-17 SC22E vs SC22F engine code
10:12 — SC22E (general engine).
10:125 — SC22F (reverse-equipped variant).
- Both used in the same file without clear explanation of the relationship.
AM-18 Reverse speed: design vs fault threshold
10:134 — design speed ~1.5 mph / ~2.4 km/h, fault threshold <1.0 km/h / ~0.6 mph.
- Confusing to have two different speeds in two different unit systems in the same paragraph.
AM-19 Main amplifier output: per channel or total?
08:19 — "24 W per channel" vs "24 W total" vs "25 W/side ~50 W total." Unresolved.
AM-20 "Starter-relay regulator" undefined
06:181 — term not defined anywhere. Unclear what component this refers to.
AM-21 Frame type designation
16:19 — "tubular steel double cradle" vs "tubular steel cradle" used interchangeably. Which is the correct factory term?
AM-22 Coolant change interval logic
03:204 — "every 2 years (mileage-based references cite ~38,000 km / 24,000 mi)." Is it whichever-comes-first or both?

6. GL1500 Structural Issues
ST-01 Stale "adjust link to actual filename" TODOs in file 05
05:97, 05:102, 05:153, 05:245 — links are correct but the TODO notes remain.
ST-02 Stale "(filename assumed)" qualifiers in file 07
07:80 — "See Brakes (filename assumed)."
07:115 — "see Engine Specifications (filename assumed)."
- Both files exist. Remove the qualifiers.
07:7 — both "Electrical System & Battery" and "Fuses & Relays" point to 06-electrical-system-wiring-fuses.md. The battery file (05) is missing from the cross-reference.
ST-04 Duplicate torque values in file 01
01:161 (oil change tips) and 01:187 (torque table) — same drain-bolt and filter torques in two sections. Could diverge if one is updated.
ST-05 Both cross-reference links in file 03 resolve to file 01
03:257 — "Engine Specifications" and "Lubrication / Oil System" both link to 01-engine.md.
ST-06 Stale editorial note in file 03
03:257 — "sibling-file names/numbers assumed — adjust links" left in the published document.

00:163 — ### Brakes heading directly after preceding paragraph (no blank line).
00:173 — ### Wheels & tires heading same issue.
ST-08 Service manual page references for 1994 model year
06:5, 06:98, 06:134 — page numbers from 1994/1995 SM used for 2000 SE documentation. Changes did happen mid-run (e.g. Relay 2 added in 1994).
ST-09 Final-drive oil units order
00:207 — "(4.9 Imp oz / 4.7 US oz)" — Imp listed first, but CLAUDE.md convention is US first.
ST-10 Fuel tank units order inconsistency
00:204 — "(5.3 Imp gal / 6.3 US gal)" — Imp first.
02:171 — "(6.3 US gal / 5.3 Imp gal)" — US first.
- Should be consistent.

README:3 — presented as fact in intro, qualified only later in the file.
ZZR-14 Die-cast frame claim not in verify section
README:12 — "die-cast from 2008" stated confidently but not verifiable from given sources.
ZZR-15 Caliper brand omitted
README:45 — "four-piston radial-mount calipers" without naming Tokico (ZRX names the brand).
ZZR-16 All documentation files planned, none exist
README:64–119 — every entry is "(planned)."
ZZR-17 Skipped file numbers 08 and 17
- Same as ZRX, no explanation.
9. BMW E39 523i 2000
E39-01 Rear brake disc diameter — likely wrong
README:45 — rear "298 x 20 mm" flagged.
- Front is 296 mm. Rear larger than front is anomalous.
- Multiple sources cite 294 or 296 mm for the 523i. 298 mm is more likely the 528i/530i spec.
E39-02 Block liner description oversimplified
README:12 — "Nikasil or Alusil liner depending on market."
- Omits the iron-lined replacement blocks from the Nikasil recall program.
E39-03 DME version
README:32 — "MS 41.0" flagged. Some late cars may use MS 41.1.
E39-04 Differential ratio

README:61 — "~9.4 L/100 km" with no flag despite sources citing 9.0–9.6 range.
E39-15 Oil capacity unflagged
README:40 — "~6.5 L" with no flag. M52B25 oil capacity varies 6.5–6.9 L depending on oil cooler. Inconsistent with the flagging of coolant capacity.
E39-16 Internal designation
README:17 — "256S3" stated definitively. Could be 256S3 or 256S4 depending on variant.
E39-17 M52TU possibility not scoped
README:139, README:176 — "some late-production 2000 models may have received the M52TU." If true, multiple specs differ (power, VANOS, DME). The scope of impact is not summarized.
E39-18 "Kerb-to-kerb" row label mismatch
README:64 — row labeled "Kerb-to-kerb" appears to contain seating/body info (5-seat, 4-door sedan), not turning circle.
E39-19 All documentation files planned, none exist
README:68–124 — every entry is "(planned)."
E39-20 No Goldwing cross-reference link
- ZRX and ZZR READMEs link to the Goldwing as the pattern reference. BMW README does not.
10. Cross-Vehicle Issues
CV-01 Battery spec missing from all three non-Goldwing READMEs
- ZRX, ZZR, and E39 all omit battery Ah and battery part number from their electrical rows. None flag this as unverified.
CV-02 Documentation index numbering gaps
- ZRX and ZZR skip file numbers 08 and 17 without explanation.
- BMW explains the skipping ("some numbers are reserved or skipped").
- Should be consistent.
CV-03 Caliper brand naming inconsistency
- ZRX names Tokico explicitly. ZZR does not (also uses Tokico). Inconsistent detail level.
CV-04 Rear suspension terminology
- ZRX: "Horizontal back-link." ZZR: "Bottom-link Uni-Trak." Both are Uni-Trak linkages. ZRX description is non-standard.
CV-05 Cross-reference to Goldwing
- ZRX
README:65 and ZZR README:66 link to ../Goldwing-GL1500-SE-2000/README.md.
- BMW
README:70 does not. Should be consistent or all removed.

The highest-priority fixes are the cross-file contradictions (section 1), particularly XF-01/XF-33 (neutral light wiring), XF-04 (spark plug torque), XF-13 (fork air pressure max), and XF-20 (SMC contradiction). Among potentially wrong values, PW-18 (E39 rear disc), PW-03 (spark plug torque in quick-spec), and ZRX-01 (six-piston calipers) are the most likely to cause real problems if acted upon.
